Learn Together with Others at your Level | Ages 5+
In a group lesson, you’ll join a class with other guests. You’re grouped by age, skill level, and whether you ski or snowboard, so everyone is learning together at a similar level. Adult group lessons typically have up to 10 students, while children’s lessons are usually smaller for more personalized attention. Group lessons are a great, budget-friendly option and a fun way to learn while meeting others.

Please note: Private lessons do not offer discounted rates for lift ticket and equipment rentals. All lessons (group or private) require a lift ticket or 25/26 Ikon Pass or BBMR Season Pass to access the terrain, even if your skills do not require the use of chairlifts.

Get the best rates when you purchase online in advance. Prices range based on availability, peak holidays and periods. Prices vary between locations. For the lowest rates, book your lesson at Snow Valley; even though the chart below shows similar prices, Snow Valley may always be a lower rate per day compared to Snow Summit or Bear Mountain. Prices are the same whether you're renting to ski or snowboard.

Private Lessons
Private lessons are available for parties of 5 or fewer. For parties of 5 or more, an additional private lesson and instructor must be booked. Pricing is subject to change.

Why can't I book a 1-hour private online?
1-hour private lessons are only available to book onsite in person because of the limited quantities and staffing.
Private Lessons with Children Ages 4 & Over
Children must be at least 4 years old and potty trained – no diapers. No more than 2 (two) 4 year olds in a private lesson.
How is private lesson pricing determined?
All private lesson pricing is based on 2 participants enrolled in the lesson. Pricing does not decrease for single participants and an additional fee will be assessed for private lessons with more than 2 enrolled participants (max 5).

Big Bear Mountain Resort does not automatically include a Lift Ticket with every Lesson because there are guests taking a lesson that may already have a Season Pass, Military vouchers, etc.Can my kids be together in a group lesson?
Children in the same age range, ability level, and equipment type may be enrolled in the same group lesson, subject to availability. No exceptions. If you would like your children to be enrolled in the same class but do not meet these requirements, please consider booking a private lesson.Is a helmet required for lessons?
Children (ages 5-12) enrolled in lessons must wear a helmet. Helmets are not required for adults, (ages 13+) enrolled in lessons, but are highly recommended.What are the age ranges for lessons?
Group lessons are available for Explorers (ages 5-7), Adventurers (ages 8-12), and adults (ages 13+). Private lessons are available for ages 4+, provided they know how to use the restroom on their own and no longer require diapers.What is the class size of a group lesson?
Group lesson sizes vary, depending on demand and availability. Adult group lessons typically do not exceed 10 students. Subject to change based on staffing and holiday peak dates. Child group lessons are typically smaller.Should I book my lesson in advance or when I arrive?
To ensure lesson type and instructor availability, we highly recommend booking lessons in advance. Guests may purchase lessons upon arrival, but risk having their lesson type or time slot being sold out.
All lesson purchases made online are required to be made at least 2 days in advance for processing.When should I arrive for my lesson?
We recommend arriving at Bear Mountain or Snow Summit at least 1.5 hours (90 minutes) prior to your scheduled lesson time to ensure you have enough time to check-in, pick up your lift tickets and/or rental equipment, gear up, and walk to the designated meeting location. Please note that the recommended arrival time does not include parking and shuttling to the resort.
Check InWhat level of lessons are offered?
We will conduct a brief on-site assessment and place you in the appropriate group class based on your age, ability, and type of equipment (ski vs snowboard).
BEGINNER: If you have never skied/snowboarded before, never been on a chairlift, or cannot stop or turn.
INTERMEDIATE: If you can turn, stop, ride the chairlift, and navigate most beginner and low intermediate runs.
ADVANCED: If you are confident skiing/snowboarding on all terrain, including steep and challenging features.
Are kids ski/snowboard lessons offered?
YES - Big Bear Mountain Resort offers multiple lesson options for kids, ages 5-12.
Group Lessons
Kids group lessons are available for Explorers (5-7 years old) and Adventurers (8-12 years old). Lesson categories and curriculum are based on your age, ability and type of equipment (ski vs snowboard).
Private Lessons
Children must be at least 4 years old and potty trained to be enrolled in a private lesson (no diapers). No more than 2 (two) 4 year olds in a private lesson.What type of clothing & protection should I wear when skiing/snowboarding?
Weather conditions and temperatures can vary at higher altitudes, therefore we recommend wearing multiple layers, including a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating middle layer, and water-resistant outer layer to protect you from the elements.
Need pants for the day? BBMR offers snow pant rentals for $20/day on a first come, first serve basis. BBMR does not offer any other clothing rentals, but Big Bear Sports does carry a wide selection of outerwear, accessories, and branded apparel. We recommend guests wearing sunscreen, snow goggles or any form of protected eyewear, gloves/mitten, and socks.
NOTE: Children ages 12 and under are required to wear a helmet, snow goggles, and gloves/mittens.
No refunds on the day of or after your visit. Snow conditions, weather, or terrain availability are variable and subject to change throughout the season. Guests may change or cancel lift ticket, lesson, rental, or activity reservations up to 3 full days prior to the scheduled date for a full refund. Changes or cancellations made within 3 days, up until the day prior to the scheduled date, will result in an Activity Change Voucher being issued for the full value of the activity cost (no fee). Same-day changes, cancellations, or failure to show up to your activity will result in a full forfeit of your payment.
Before making a purchase, please review the Activity Change & Cancellation Policy page for complete details on what is refundable and non-refundable. PLEASE NOTE: The purchaser must be present and provide a valid physical government-issued ID and the form of payment used to purchase the reservation at time of check in. No exceptions
Once you make a purchase, if those funds are removed from Big Bear Mountain Resort's account and given back to you, your purchased tickets will become void and irredeemable for entry. Fraudulent attempts to force a bank or credit card chargeback by claiming you didn’t make the ticket purchase or can’t identify the purchase on your bank statement will result in being barred from attending future events hosted by Big Bear Mountain Resort.
Using Gift Cards, ACV, and other Forms of Payment
Gift Cards, Pass Holder Discounts, Pass Cash, and Activity Change Vouchers cannot be applied online at this time. These forms of payments can only be used in-person or by calling 844.GO2.BEAR. Credit card tokenization is the process of de-identifying sensitive cardholder data by converting it to a string of randomly generated numbers called a "token." Similar to encryption, tokenization obfuscates the original data to render it unreadable in the event of a data breach or other exposure. If you are having issues with your card, please call your bank directly.
Risk Warning
Skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities have inherent risks that may result in property damage, personal injury, or death. GUESTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND ASSUME ALL INHERENT RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH PARTICIPATING IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. All guests must follow the Big Bear Mountain Resort rules of conduct and NSAA Responsibility Code. Visit the Safety page for complete details. Lift tickets and season passes may be suspended or revoked without refund at any time for failure to comply with resort rules, misconduct, nuisance, reckless behavior, or fraudulent use. Anyone attempting to use a lift ticket or season pass fraudulently or in a manner for which it is not intended is subject to prosecution under California Penal Code 537(b). Policy on Lift Ticket Purchases & Age Verification
Anyone found purchasing child tickets for personal use as adult tickets will be deemed engaging in fraudulent activity. Big Bear Mountain Resort is committed to rigorously enforcing the utilization of tickets in accordance with their designated age categories. Any patrons discovered using tickets intended for a different age category will be promptly escorted from the resort and may incur additional consequences, potentially including a ban from future visits to Big Bear Mountain Resort. The purchaser must present a valid physical gov-issued ID and the original form of payment used to purchase the reservation at the time of check in for all reservations.
Avoid Fraud
All lift tickets and season passes are issued for personal use only and are non-transferable. Each access pass may only be used by the individual whose name is associated with it. Using another person’s access pass, or allowing someone else to use your access pass, is considered fraud and is illegal. View more on-hill rules and guidelines on the Mountain Safety page. Lift tickets are non-transferable and are not for resale. Violators may be prosecuted under California Penal Code 537 PC. To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, all ski, snowboard, and bike lessons at Big Bear Mountain Resort must be booked with a certified, BBMR instructor.
