Big Bear Mountain Resort is home to the largest learning area and best instructors in Southern California, with lesson options for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities, from first-timers to seasoned snow pros. Take your skills to new heights this winter with a group or private lesson at Bear Mountain or Snow Summit. Plus, get perks like priority lift access during your lesson. Online lesson reservations must be reserved at least 2 days prior to arrival to ensure instructor availability. Guests may buy day-of at the ticket windows if space is available.

LESSONS DO NOT INCLUDE LIFT TICKETS: If you are taking a lesson, you will need a lift ticket or season pass. Start by adding a lesson to your cart and then adding a discounted lift ticket during the checkout process.

    • Group Classes

      During a group lesson, each participant will be placed in a class based on age, ability, and type of equipment (ski vs snowboard). Adult group lessons typically do not exceed 10 students and child group lessons are typically smaller. Guests looking for a smaller class size than what is offered for a group lesson should book a private lesson.

      GROUP LESSON PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE LIFT TICKETS OR EQUIPMENT RENTALS. A valid lift ticket or season pass is required for all lessons. Discounted lift tickets and equipment rentals are offered as an add-on for all group lessons during check out. Start by adding a group lesson to your cart. From there, you will be given options to add on lift tickets or equipment rentals.

      At Big Bear Mountain Resort, we believe that building confidence and learning proper technique is just as important as taking your first turns or grinding your first rail. Let our supportive coaches, help your kids develop the skills -- and spirit -- they need to succeed on the slopes.

      Our coaches specialize in teaching kids the skills they need to succeed on the slopes with a positive approach that puts the "fun" in fundamentals.

    • Private Classes

      Looking for a more personal learning experience? Book a private lesson and enjoy a fully immersive experience that's uniquely tailored to your needs and skill set. If you are booking a private lesson with your own personal group of friends and family, you must all be using the same type of equipment (ski vs snowboard).

      PRIVATE LESSON PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE LIFT TICKETS OR EQUIPMENT RENTALS. A valid lift ticket or season pass is required for all lessons. Be sure to add your lift tickets and/or equipment rentals to your cart before checking out.

      All private lessons include:
      • A dedicated instructor and customizable experience
      • Priority lift access during your lesson
      • Option to bring friends and split the cost


      Private lessons are available for parties of 5 or fewer. For parties of 5 or more, an additional private lesson and instructor must be booked. Children must be at least 4 years old and potty trained – no diapers. No more than 2 (two) 4 year olds in a private lesson. Pricing is subject to change.

      How is private lesson pricing determined?

      All private lesson pricing is based on 2 participants enrolled in the lesson. Pricing does not decrease for single participants and an additional fee will be assessed for private lessons with more than 2 enrolled participants (max 5).

      6-Hour Lesson

      Prices range from $725-$1,015*

      Spend a full day on the slopes with a private instructor.

      Please note: 6-hour private lessons include a mandatory 30-minute lunch break. Instructors are prohibited from dining with students, therefore any children enrolled in a private lesson should be capable of dining independently or make accommodations with a parent/guardian.

      3-Hour Lesson

    • Adaptive Ski School

      Bear Mountain is proud to partner with the United States Adaptive Recreation Center (USARC) to provide skiing and snowboarding for adaptive athletes of all ages. USARC uses the best adaptive equipment, the most effective teaching techniques available, and private one-on-one instruction to maximize each participant’s potential.     • Frequently Asked Questions
      To ensure lesson and instructor and availability, we highly recommend booking lessons in advance. Guests may purchase lessons upon arrival, but risk having their preferred instructor or lesson being sold out.
      We recommend arriving at Bear Mountain or Snow Summit at least 1.5 hours (90 minutes) prior to your scheduled lesson time to ensure you have enough time to check-in, pick up your lift tickets and/or rental equipment, gear up, and walk to the designated meeting location. Please note that the recommended arrival time does not include parking and shuttling to the resort.
      BBMR offers group and private lessons for ages 4* and up. To get the most out of your time on the mountain, we recommend booking a lesson based on your skill level.

      *BBMR does not currently offer group lessons for children, ages 4 & under. Kids 4 & under may be enrolled in a private lesson, provided they are potty trained (no diapers).

      FIRST-TIME BEGINNER (level 1): If you have never skied/snowboarded before, never been on a chairlift, or cannot stop or turn. NOTE: If you are not a First-Time Beginner, we will conduct a brief on-site assessment and place you in the appropriate class based on your age, ability and type of equipment (ski vs snowboard).

      ADVANCED BEGINNER (level 2):
      If you can turn, stop, ride a moving carpet or the beginner chairlift and navigate beginner runs without assistance.

      INTERMEDIATE: If you can turn, stop, ride the chairlift, and navigate most beginner and low intermediate runs.

      ADVANCED/EXPERT:
      If you are confident skiing/snowboarding on all terrain, including steep and challenging features.


      YES -- Big Bear Mountain Resort offers multiple lesson options for kids, ages 5-12.

      GROUP LESSONS
      Kids group lessons are available for Adventurers (8-12 years old) and Explorers (5-7 years old). Lesson categories and curriculum are based your age, ability and type of equipment (ski vs snowboard).

      PRIVATE LESSONS
      Children must be at least 4 years old and potty trained to be enrolled in a private lesson (no diapers).
      Weather conditions and temperatures can vary at higher altitudes, therefore we recommend wearing multiple layers, including a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating middle layer, and water-resistant outer layer to protect you from the elements.

      Need pants for the day? BBMR offers snow pant rentals for $15/day. BBMR does not offer any other clothing rentals, but Big Bear Sports does carry a wide selection of outerwear, accessories, and branded apparel. We recommend guests wearing sunscreen, snow goggles or any form of protected eyewear, gloves/mitten, and socks.

      NOTE: Children ages 12 and under are required to wear a helmet, snow goggles, and gloves/mittens.
    Gift Cards, Pass Holder Discounts, Pass Cash, and Activity Change Vouchers cannot be applied online at this time. These forms of payments can only be used in-person or by calling 844.GO2.BEAR.

    Credit card tokenization is the process of de-identifying sensitive cardholder data by converting it to a string of randomly generated numbers called a "token." Similar to encryption, tokenization obfuscates the original data to render it unreadable in the event of a data breach or other exposure. If you are having issues with your card, please call your bank directly.
    Skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities have inherent risks that may result in property damage, personal injury, or death. GUESTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND ASSUME ALL INHERENT RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH PARTICIPATING IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. All guests must follow the Big Bear Mountain Resort rules of conduct and NSAA Responsibility Code. Visit the Safety page for complete details. Lift tickets and season passes may be suspended or revoked without refund at any time for failure to comply with resort rules, misconduct, nuisance, reckless behavior, or fraudulent use. Anyone attempting to use a lift ticket or season pass fraudulently or in a manner for which it is not intended is subject to prosecution under California Penal Code 537(b).     Guests that purchase lift tickets, equipment rentals, and/or lessons in advance can skip the ticket windows by following the instructions in their confirmation email.

    If for any reason you are having issues with your reservation onsite and need assistant at the ticket windows, the purchaser must be in-person at time of redemption and present the following:

    Valid photo ID
    Card used for the purchase
    Confirmation email

    Guests may change or cancel lift ticket, lesson, rental, or activity reservations up to 3 full days prior to the scheduled date for a full refund. Changes or cancellations made within 3 days, up until the day prior to the scheduled date, will result in an Activity Change Voucher being issued for the full value of the activity cost (no fee). Same-day changes, cancellations, or failure to show up to your activity will result in a full forfeit of your payment.

    Lift Tickets


    Lift tickets are non-transferable and are not for resale. Violators may be prosecuted under California Penal Code 537 PC.

    Lessons


    To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, all ski, snowboard, and bike lessons at Big Bear Mountain Resort must be booked with a certified, BBMR instructor. Anyone found offering/selling or purchasing a 3rd party/non-BBMR lesson at BBMR will forfeit their resort access, including lift privileges, and be subject to prosecution, pursuant to California Penal Code 537 PC.
    To provide a safe and enjoyable experience, guests are expected to adhere to all posted safety guidelines, staff instructions, and demonstrate respect for others and the environment during their visit.
