DEVELOPMENT TEAM

The Development Team (“D-Team”) teaches the basic techniques of skiing to children, ages 7 to 16, who are low-intermediate through advanced skiers and are not ready for the Race Team or All Mountain Team because of their skills, maturity, or interest.

The program will introduce upper level ski techniques as the skiers become ready for higher level skills. D-Team members may move up to the Race Team or All Mountain Team by satisfactorily passing a skills test. Moving up to the other teams is not immediately mandatory after passing the test. The D-Team serves children who wish to become better recreational skiers and those desiring to race.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Development Team (“D-Team”) is a supervised weekend program that runs Saturday and Sunday: 9AM - 1:30PM

Participants will need to be able to:
  • Get up and down the hill independently with confidence and basic skills.
  • Load all chairlifts independently.
  • Learn and follow directions while participating in group activities.
  • Skiers on the Development Team are still members of the Snow Summit teams and subject to the same rules and responsibilities mentioned elsewhere in the handbook.

The D-Team program is a 16-week program with 9 hours of training each week, 4.5 hours on Saturday and 4.5 hours on Sunday. This season the first date of training is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2019 and the final date of training will be Sunday, March 22, 2020.

*Members are required to provide their own equipment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The membership fee for the Development Team is $1,500. For this fee, we will ask parents to provide one donation item valued at $50 per family and to pay the fundraising fee of $100. In addition to the membership fee, athletes pay for their Big Bear Mountain Resorts pass, uniform rental, fundraising fee, and Goldsmith race entries. The greatly reduced pass fee for team members is $50 for athletes 13 and under or $100 for athletes 14 and over. (If you have already purchased the Ikon pass, your racer may use that pass, instead. It will take the place of the Big Bear Mountain Resorts pass and there will be no additional charge for the local pass.) The uniform cost depends upon the racer’s size, and the Goldsmith entry fee is $75. Thus, the total fee is $1,725 for 13 and under, or $1,775 for 14 and older. Finally, all team members must join US Ski and Snowboard Association and Far West. This is done through www.usskiandsnowboard.org. The membership category is Alpine General Membership and the fee is $30 for USSA and $10 for Far West.

Returning Development Team members final fees are $1,725 for 13 and under, or $1,775 for 14 and older. They will also need to purchase their uniform. They also need to renew their US Ski and Snowboard Association and Far West memberships prior to October 15 through www.usskiandsnowboard.org.

ADDITIONAL MEMBERSHIP FEES

Team members are required to join USSA and Far West communities. Additional membership fees include $30 for USSA and $10 for Far West. Click to register.
