What is Big Bear Mountain Resort?

Big Bear Mountain Resort (BBMR) is Southern California’s premier year-round alpine destination, with mountain biking, hiking, and golf in the summer, and skiing/snowboarding and snow tubing in the winter.

Big Bear Mountain Resort operates two properties – Bear Mountain and Snow Summit – that are located 2 miles apart. Read below to learn more about the summer activities offered at each mountain.

Featuring beginner, intermediate, and advanced downhill trails, Skill Builder Park with Jump, Pro, and Pump lines, and access to over 60 miles of cross-country trails. Do I need a lift ticket for summer activities?

All guest must have a lift ticket to enjoy the Scenic Sky Chair or lift-served Bike Park.
How do I purchase lift tickets?

Single and multi-day lift tickets can be purchased online, at the Adventure Academy at Snow Summit, or by calling 844.GO2.BEAR.
How much is a lift ticket?

Lift ticket prices vary depending on ticket type, date(s), and guest age. Go to the purchase page for more information on ticket pricing or to purchase tickets in advance and save 20%.
Are there any lift ticket discounts for advance purchase?

Guests can save 20% on Scenic Sky Chair and Bike Park lift tickets when purchased at least 72 hours in advance. Restrictions apply.

How it works:

Purchase at least 72 hours from the chair lift opening hours of the day you'd like to ride. For example, if you are planning to ride on Saturday and chair lifts open at 9AM, you must purchase your tickets online or at the call center no later than 9AM on Wednesday prior to your trip.

Lift tickets not available to purchase online such as Afternoon Lift Tickets, are not applicable to the advance purchase discount.
What is a Lift + Lunch Package?

Guests can bundle a Scenic Sky Chair or Bike Park lift ticket with lunch, which includes any item on the menu at Skyline Taphouse served with a fountain soda or a bottled water. Advance purchase discount applies.
Are there any Scenic Sky Chair discounts for kids?

Kids, ages 5-12 can ride the Scenic Sky Chair for free when accompanied by a paying adult (limit, 2 kids per paying adult). All children riding the chairlift must be accompanied by an adult and Child Sky Chair tickets must be picked up at the Adventure Academy ticket windows prior to boarding the lift.
Do kids ride the Bike Park for free?

Kids 4 and under ride the bike park for free.
How much are Sky Chair tickets if I have more than 2 kids?

Additional round-trip Sky Chair child tickets may be purchased for $12 each. Tickets include one (1) round-trip ride on the Scenic Sky Chair (Chair 1), with access to the top of the mountain (8,200 feet). Additional child tickets must be purchased at the Adventure Academy ticket windows prior to boarding the lift.
Are there any Scenic Sky Chair discounts for seniors?

MOUNTAIN BIKING LESSONS

Should I book my lesson in advance or when I arrive?

Booking in advance is highly recommended since popular instructors and lesson times can fill up fast. To book your lesson, call 844.GO2.BEAR.

Valid lift ticket is required for all lessons.
When should I arrive for my lesson?

We recommend on arriving at least 1 hour prior to your scheduled lesson time to ensure you have enough time to park, check-in, and pick up your lift tickets and/or rental equipment.
What type of lesson should I take?

BBMR offers group and private lessons for ages 6 and up.

BEGINNER: If you have never tried mountain biking before, never been on a chairlift, or need assistance with shifting and/or braking.

INTERMEDIATE: If you can comfortably ride the chairlift and navigate most beginner and low intermediate trails.

ADVANCED/EXPERT: If you are confident riding on all terrain, including steep and challenging features.
Where do lessons meet?

All lessons meet at the Adventure Academy at Snow Summit.
What lesson options are available for children?

Children must be at least 6 years old to take a lesson at BBMR.
What type of clothing should I wear?

Weather conditions and temperatures can vary at higher altitudes, therefore we recommend bringing multiple layers, including a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating middle layer, and water-resistant outer layer to protect you from the elements.
What should I do to avoid altitude sickness?

Higher altitudes may cause some people to experience dizziness, nausea, and general fatigue due to lower barometric pressure and oxygen levels. To avoid these symptoms drink plenty of water before, during, and after your visit to BBMR, limit your caffeine and alcohol intake while at the resort, and pace yourself throughout the day.

The effects of sun exposure are also amplified at higher altitudes, therefore we recommend using a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF on any exposed areas throughout the day.

If you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness, find a shaded area to rest and hydrate. If your condition does not improve, contact the Patrol Department for further assistance and treatment.

BIKE RENTAL EQUIPMENT

What type of equipment rentals does BBMR offer?

BBMR offers bike rentals for all ability levels, ages 7 and up. To reserve your rental equipment in advance, click here.
Does BBMR offer helmet rentals?

Helmets are available at all of our rental shops, with select models available for purchase at Big Bear Sports, located in the base area.

Please note, helmets are required for all children ages 12 and under enrolled in Sports School lessons.
Does BBMR offer clothing rentals?

BBMR does not offer clothing rentals, but Big Bear Sports does carry a wide selection of outerwear, accessories, and branded apparel.
Can rental equipment be exchanged?

Guests may exchange or upgrade rental equipment on the day of their rental reservation, subject to availability and any costs associated with the exchange or upgrade.
How long does it take to pick up rental equipment?

Processing times vary based on guest volume, staffing, and equipment availability, therefore we recommend allowing at least 1 hour to pick up your equipment. Allow additional time for weekends and holidays or if you have a lesson scheduled.
Can I pick up my bike rental equipment early?

Bike rentals can only be picked up on the day of your reservation.
Can I return my bike rental equipment early?

Guests may return their rental equipment any time during the duration of their rental reservation. To view BBMR’s Activity Change & Cancellation Policy, click here.
When should I return my rental equipment?

All rental equipment should be returned at the end of lift operations – aka when the chairlifts stop turning – on the last day of your rental reservation.
When do I pay for my rental equipment?

Total payment is required at time of booking for advanced reservations, or at time of purchase if renting day-of or day prior in-person.
Does BBMR offer any discounts on rental equipment?

BBMR passholders receive 10% off all bike rentals (cannot be combined with any additional discounts or promotions). There are no discounts on rental equipment for advance purchase or multi-day rentals.
What do I do with my equipment if I have a multi-day rental?

All BBMR rental shops provide complimentary overnight gear check for multi-day rentals. Please note, space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

HIKING

Do I need to purchase a lift ticket to go hiking?

Lift tickets are not required for hiking at Snow Summit, however lift tickets are required for any guest riding the Scenic Sky Chair up or down the mountain.
Can I bring my dog on the hiking trails?

Dogs are allowed in the base area and on hiking trails at Snow Summit, but not on chairlifts, and must be on a leash at all times.
Are there water stations located on the trails?

Water stations are not available on the trails at Snow Summit. You can fill up your water bottles at the base area or at the top at Skyline Taphouse*.

ABOVE THE BOOM

What is Above the Boom?

Above the Boom is a Fourth of July party at the top of Snow Summit. This event takes annually place on July 4. The adventure begins with a ride on our Scenic Sky Chair through the San Bernardino National Forest to the top of the mountain (elev. 8,200 feet), and continues with family-friendly entertainment and panoramic views of the Big Bear Fireworks Spectacular.
What time does the event start?

Lifts will begin operation for the event at 5PM.
What time does the event end?

The event ends at the conclusion of the Big Bear Fireworks Spectacular (approximately 9:30PM).
What should I bring?

Small, lightweight blankets and foldable camping chairs are allowed on the chairlift.
What should I wear?

Sturdy shoes with appropriate tread are recommended as guests will have to travel approximately 1/5 of a mile on uneven terrain to reach the lower viewing areas. A light jacket or sweatshirt and long pants are also recommended as temps can drop quickly at high altitude.
How much does it cost?

$50 for adults/youths/seniors (13 & up), $30 for children 5-12, toddlers 4 & under are $15.
What is included in the ticket price?

Lift access to/from the top of the mountain, a Southern-style BBQ dinner complimentary glass of champagne (21+), hot chocolate for the kids, live music, kids activities, and the ultimate view of the Fireworks Spectacular show.
When do the fireworks start?

Approximately 8:45PM.
Can I go up and down the lift multiple times?

Guests may ride the chairlift up/down the mountain as needed, provided they have an event wristband.

Can I bring a chair?

Yes, but foldable chairs only. Oversize and non-foldable chairs will not be permitted on the chairlift.
Can I bring a cooler?

Are ADA services available for the event?

Is there a minimum age requirement to ride the chairlift?

Lifts are open to all ages, but BBMR reserves the right to provide alternative accommodations to any/all guests based on mountain safety protocol.

ADVENTURE ACADEMY SUMMER CAMP

What is the Adventure Academy Summer Camp?

The Adventure Academy Summer Camp is an immersive all-day (9AM-3PM) experience for kids ages 8-12 featuring a variety of outdoor adventures and activities – including hiking, mountain biking, golf, and more – at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain on select dates in July and September.

When is the Adventure Academy Summer Camp?

Single-day camps are available July 7-13, July 16-20, and Sept. 1-2. Activities will vary for campers attending multiple days.

Note: The Basecamp + Biking package is only available July 10-11 and July 17-18 and the Basecamp + Golf package is only available July 12-13 and July 19-20.
How much does the Adventure Academy Summer Camp cost?

Pricing varies based on the package selected.

What if my child has allergies?

Vegan and a vegetarian dietary options are available upon request Campers with severe food allergies/restrictions should bring their own meals and kids with EpiPens should bring them to the Adventure Academy each day.
What type of clothing and shoes should campers wear?

Closed-toe athletic shoes are required for all activities. We highly recommend campers wear lightweight, breathable clothing, including a jacket/windbreaker and hat, since they will be outdoors for the majority of the day. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also recommended.

Note: Campers will not be allowed to participate in any activities without proper footwear and refunds will not be issued.
What days are golf and mountain biking available?

The Basecamp + Biking package is available July 10-11 and July 17-18.

The Basecamp + Golf package is available July 12-13 and July 19-20.
What is the daily schedule for campers not enrolled in the biking or golfing packages?

Campers not enrolled in the Basecamp + Biking or Basecamp + Golf packages will follow the schedule listed under the Basecamp Package. Activities will vary for campers attending multiple days.
Can campers use their own bike or golf equipment?

Yes, but all equipment (mountain bike, helmet, golf clubs, etc.) must be in good working order and approved for use by the camp instructor/staff.
Are there any discounts if campers use their own equipment?

Campers enrolled in the Basecamp + Bike package that use their own equipment receive a $10 discount ($89 per camper, per day).
Why is the Adventure Academy Summer Camp only for ages 8-12?

Due to the requirements set by our activity and equipment vendors there are no exceptions to the 8-12 age limits.

LIGHTNING POLICY

What is BBMR's lightning policy?
1. We do not operate our lifts or outdoor facilities or undertake maintenance operations when lightning is within 6 miles of the designated lightning center. At the discretion of the MMOD or the Facility Manager, using the information provided by Schneider Electric, an activity may remain in operation. There are 3 centers depending on the area of operation: Top of Bear Mountain, Base are of Snow Summit, and the Bear Mountain Golf Course.
2. When Schneider Electric detects lightning within the 10 to 15-mile Advisory Area for BBMR text messages will be sent to designated Managers and Supervisors, as identified by a Budget Authority, advising them of the proximity of lightning.Text messages will also be sent when lightning is detected within the caution (10 to 6-mile range) and warning (less than 6 mile) areas.
3. Operations may recommence when no lightning has occurred for 15 minutes inside cautionary range (10 to 6-mile range.)
What lightning system does BBMR use?

Big Bear Mountain Resort subscribes to Schneider Electric’s Sentry System which supplies us with real-time information on lightning strikes within the Big Bear area.

The National Lightning Detection Network consists of over 110 ground-based sensors that detect the electromagnetic signals that are emitted by lightning discharges. Each sensor is equipped with GPS timing and magnetic direction finders to measure the signals, and satellite communications to transmit the information in real-time to Vaisala’s control center in Tucson, Arizona. They ingest the raw data and calculate the position of the lightning strikes, which is sent to Schneider Electric in less than 30 seconds. Schneider Electric then makes this information available to their subscribers.
