There’s been a lot of excitement in the Skill Builder Park this summer. From the Pro Line to the Pump Track, there’s something for everyone, including the Small Wonder beginner line, which is great for first-time riders, or if you just want a quick warm-up before heading out to more challenging trails and terrain.

To access Small Wonder, take Chair 4 and head back down under the chairlift. You'll find bank turns, paved corners, small rock gardens, rollers, and more to prepare you for what you'll find in the Bike Park. Once you’re comfortable on Small Wonder it's time to check out some more advanced terrain on Chair 1.

If you’re looking for a great deal on a Trek bike, stop by the Adventure Academy this weekend and put down a deposit on one of our custom rental bikes. Select models come with a season pass for the remainder of the summer and you’ll be able to pick up your bike on Labor Day weekend so you can put it to good use.

With many SoCal schools back in session, now is a great time to hit the hill mid-week and take advantage of the open slopes and short lift lines. We’ll be operating daily through Labor Day weekend before transitioning to weekend-only operations, Friday – Sunday, through the end of October.

Come enjoy the end of summer and welcome fall at the Summit Bike Park.

We'll see you on the dirt.

This week, Turtle Trail gets a touch-up and we're raising the bar for the final Summit Series competition of the season.

While trails like Party Wave and Westridge get the lion’s share of love from riders, you'll have just as much fun with less crowded runs and endless berms on Turtle Trail, which our Trail Crew extended to the top of Chair 1 last season to give riders an intermediate trail option from the top of the hill. This week the Crew gave the trail a complete rebuild, so be sure to check it out.

This Saturday is the last Summit Series of the season, featuring a High Air contest. The rules are simple – whoever clears the tallest height without knocking over the bar wins. Whether competing or spectating, this contest is always a favorite. Riders can register to compete in the base area Saturday morning, with practice from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and the competition starting at 1 p.m.

Hey, you guys! If you’re sticking around for the weekend, join us Saturday night in the Summit base area for a free screening of The Goonies (PG, 114 min.) as part of our Movies in the Meadow series. The show starts at 8 p.m., with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis, concessions available at Bighorn Smokehouse, and a Truffle Shuffle contest following the movie. Winner gets a GoPro 5!

    It’s gonna be a high-flying, berm riding, Goonies-never-say-die(ing) weekend.

We'll see you on the dirt.

We normally don’t endorse anything tacky – lava lamps, shag carpet, macramé sweater vests, etc. – but when it comes to our bike trails, the tackier the better. This week, multiple rain showers have helped resurface our Park trails and freshened up our Adopt-A-Trails, which means this weekend’s riding conditions are going to be tackier than your great aunt’s homemade holiday sweatshirts.

Take advantage of these epic conditions by spending some time on the Blue Jump Line in our Skill Builder Park. The line features a step-down, two rollers, five table tops, and two ramps, with six connecting berms all scaled down for flow and fun. Give it a go and you’ll be graduating to the Pro Line in no time.

If you’re in the market for a new helmet, come check out the latest line of Fox Proframe models – aka the lightest, most breathable full face mountain bike helmet Fox has ever created – this Saturday at the Fox Proframe World Tour in the Summit base area. Whether you’re into Park riding, cross-country treks, or just cruising around town, these helmets offer full face protection with open face breathability, so stop by the activation in the base area this weekend to take one for a free test ride.

Looking for more BBMR bike info? Check out our summer tips series – Over The Bars – for insights on bike rentals, lessons, and more.

This weekend’s forecast calls for great weather, great conditions, and great times.

Before we drop into this week’s Feed, thanks to everyone who made it to Summit last weekend for Crafts & Cranks. Whether you came for the bike racing, the beer tasting, or the live music and mountain vibes, we’re stoked about the amazing turnout and already looking forward to next year’s event.

This week the rain gods made their way to the mountain on Monday, providing some much-needed precipitation. In most places the deluge was absorbed quickly, but it also created a few trouble spots, which our Trail Crew has spent the past couple days repairing, in addition to re-visiting every trail in the Park. It’s going to be a great weekend on the mountain, with moderate temps and tacky tracks in the forecast.

Make plans to be here this Sunday, July 30, to participate in the Mountaintop Trail Rally, presented by Team Big Bear. The event features four biking and hiking competitions, including a 13-mile time trial on Skyline Trail and non-competitive downhill ride on the Going Green trail.

All participants receive a free Scenic Sky Chair + lunch ticket, with proceeds going to the Southern California Mountains Foundation and Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation to support maintenance and development of trails in the area, so register today and make a difference for your favorite SoCal trail system.

We'll see you on the dirt.

This week in the Feed – Crafts & Cranks if finally here, some much-needed maintenance in the Park, and Blue Line construction is complete.

Our Trail Crew has been busy rebuilding berms, shaping jump lips, and knocking down chatter bumps each morning before the Park opens in order to keep our core trails in top condition without having to close them during riding hours. You’ll no doubt notice the difference on your next ride.

Since the Pro Line was put in, the Skill Builder Park has been buzzing with high-flying activity. This week the Crew finished construction on a scaled down version of the Pro Line – the Blue Line – designed to help intermediate riders improve their skills and get a feel for the elements in the more advanced Pro Line.

Make plans to be here this weekend for Crafts & Cranks, our annual bike and brew fest, featuring 40 beers on tap, live music, and $40,000 in prize money. The fun kicks off on Friday with stage one of the Endro race and Pump Track and Pro Line qualifying and continues through Sunday. Click here to register online, or come enjoy samples for 20 SoCal breweries and family-friendly fun like carnival rides, face painting, and our Basecamp activities (climbing wall, zip line, Eurobungy, QUICKjump).

Admission to the Summit base area is free and includes live performances by The Curly Wolf, Buck-O-Nine, Unwritten Law, and more, so grab your tasting and activity tickets today and we’ll see you on the dirt …

This week the Pro Line is ready to ride for anyone brave enough to send it while the Blue and Green lines are taking shape. We also have a couple events this weekend; Summit Series #2 (Pump Track) and a FOX women’s session with pro riders Claire Buchar and Katrina Strand.

If you've been up the past couple weeks you’ve no doubt seen the Pro Line progress from the chair, and this weekend you can finally give it a spin. This year’s Pro Line features a container drop-in and epic gap jump, which gives the Skill Builder Park a whole new look and feel. This week the Crew will also work on finishing the Green and Blue Lines to complete our base area Skill Builder features.

The Pump Track competition goes down on Saturday, July 8, with registration in the base area and races from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. We'll be racing on our new mirrored Pump Track – located on the east end of the base area, between Chairs 4 and 10 – with the winning female and top three male riders qualifying for the Crafts & Cranks competition on July 22 in addition to taking home a Bike Park season pass. For more information, click here.

The women’s sessions (July 8-9) are free for the first 20 female riders who sign up before 9 a.m. each day and will feature How-To demos and a Q&A session with Claire and Katrina, with participants receiving discounted lift tickets and prize giveaways.

It looks like we may see a shower or two late this week, so make tracks for the mountain. We'll see you on the dirt...

  • Movies in the Meadow | July 29

    by Franchesca Nguyen | Jul 03, 2017
Join us Saturday, July 29, at 8:00 p.m. in the Snow Summit base area for the second screening in our free Movies in the Meadow summer series, Walt Disney Studios "Wreck-It Ralph," featuring John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, and Mindy Kaling.

This Academy Award-nominated film features video game villain Wreck-It Ralph (voiced by Reilly), who longs to be as beloved as his game's good guy, Fix-It Felix. So when a new, first-person shooter game arrives Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism, but soon wrecks everything and accidentally unleashes an enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph's only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (Silverman), a troublemaking "glitch," who might be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a good guy before it's "Game Over" for the entire arcade.
