Big Bear Mountain Resort mountains covered in snow

The 2018/19 winter season has been one for the books, with 128 inches of snow so far – including 81 in February – and more in the forecast. With that much snow, getting to the resort and on the slopes quickly can be a challenge, so here are 10 time-saving tips for your next trip to Big Bear Mountain Resort.

    1. Get an early start
Bear Mountain and Snow Summit typically experience higher visitation and vehicle traffic on weekends and snow days, so give yourself plenty of time when traveling to/from the resort.

And don't worry about missing breakfast – we have plenty of coffee and dining options available at both base areas.

    VIEW DINING OPTIONS

    2. Check for traffic advisories
All roads to Big Bear are open. There are 3 ways up and 3 ways home. Check socalmountains.com/roads before you head out to stay updated on road conditions to/from BBMR.

    CHECK ROAD CONDITIONS

    3. Chains checklist
Chain requirements may be in effect. Be in the know as conditions change rapidly. Be prepared by practicing putting your tire chains on before you get to the mountain and use designated turnouts – not the middle of the road – whenever possible.

    CHECK CHAIN REQUIREMENTS

    4. Turn off your GPS
Stay on primary roads/highways and follow all directional signage and/or staff instructions when you arrive to Big Bear as traffic/parking routes may differ from your GPS system.

    5. Parking prep
On-site parking at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with complimentary shuttle service available to/from our satellite lots. Please check in advance to see which satellite lots are scheduled to be open during your visit to ensure shuttle service is available.

    PARKING INFO

    6. Take the trolley
Big Bear Mountain Resort/Ikon season passholders and non-passholder guests who purchase lift tickets in advance can skip the parking lot lines by taking the Big Bear Trolley to/from both properties for FREE*.

*Valid lift ticket confirmation required. Available for reservation date only.

    SEE SCHEDULE

    7. Book in advance
Save time and money by booking your lift tickets, lessons, and rentals in advance. Get 20% off lift tickets when you purchase at least 72 hours in advance and make sure you get the lesson time and instructor you want by booking ahead, or skip the rental shop line by upgrading to a personal fitting appointment when you reserve rental equipment online or by calling 844.GO2.BEAR.

    BOOK YOUR TRIP

    8. Know where to go
If you booked your trip in advance, skip the main ticket windows and head to the designated Will Call ticket windows or Guest Services office to retrieve your reservation.

If your child is signed up for a lesson, plan to arrive at least 60-90 minutes before the scheduled lesson time, then head to the Bear Mountain or Snow Summit Adventure Academies to check in. Both academies feature full-service kids equipment rentals and beginner areas with lift, lesson, and rental packages available for ages 4-12.

    KIDS LESSON INFO

    9. Pick up your rentals early
If you have a Saturday equipment rental reservation you can pick up your gear at Snow Summit after 5PM on the Friday before your reservation and enjoy a FREE Night Session lift ticket to shred under the stars until 8:30PM.

    RESERVE RENTAL EQUIPMENT

    10. Stick around for Night Sessions
Spend more time on the slopes and less time in traffic by extending your visit with Night Sessions on Feb. 22-23 and March 1-2, 9, and 16 from 3PM—8:30PM at Snow Summit.
