2020/21 Opening Day Recap

Posted On: Nov 23, 2020

The winter 20/21 season officially kicked off at Big Bear Mountain Resort (BBMR) with current BBMR and Ikon Pass holders taking their first laps at Snow Summit, Nov. 18-19, and at Bear Mountain, Nov. 19, before both mountains opened to the public on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.

Prior to opening, Mother Nature delivered 12-18" of freshies to Big Bear in early November, followed by a week of cold temps and light winds that provided perfect snowmaking conditions.

To accommodate the wellbeing of guests, employees, and the community, both mountains implemented several new operating procedures, including reducing operating capacities and limiting gated base area access to guests with a valid season pass, lift ticket, or advance reservation. At Snow Summit, guests were greeted with access to chairs 1 (Miracle Mile and Upper Summit Run), 2 (Lower Summit Run and Summit Connection), 4 (Beginner Area), and 8 (Bear Bottom Beginner Area).

At Bear Mountain, guests took turns on chairs 5 (Central Park), 7 (Inspiration) and 9 (Park Run, Expressway, and Hidden Valley) with 22 features available across both resorts.

With BBMR now open daily all guests traveling to Bear Mountain and Snow Summit must have a valid lift ticket, season pass, or reservation to receive gated entry access to the base areas this winter. Please take a moment to review our updated operating plan and watch our 20/21 welcome video before planning your next adventure to the mountains.
