ALEXIS ROLAND & JESSE PAUL TAKE HOME TOP HONORS AT HOT DAWGZ & HAND RAILS 2019
Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails annually features some of the best riders competing on a one-of-a-kind rail jam course designed and built by Big Bear Mountain Resort's renowned park staff.
Toss in must-see music performances and a bunch of snow-starved fanatics ready to party like there’s no tomorrow, and it’s no wonder why HDHR has been one of the most influential and innovative events in the snowboarding industry for 16 years running. Thanks to everyone who made it out to this year's event at Snow Summit (Sept., 28, 2019).
HAPPY SWEET 16
Established in 2003, Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails (HDHR) – aka “the largest winter kickoff party known to man” – is one of the snowboarding industry’s biggest events, featuring some of the best riders competing in a one-of-a-kind rail jam contest + live music and vendor activations.
The 2019 rail jam course had 11 jibs, with two different jib pads.
Starting at the top from rider’s right featured a down flat down rail, a down bar with middle gap separated by a stair case, a 6’ down bar with a jam up the front, a double slide with variable length rails, and a brand new, never-been-done-before 6’ corrugated down bar that was also separated by a stair case. The second pad had a full plaza set up with close-in and close-outs. From right to left, the layout included half of the El Toro stair set with a gap to down bar and a close-out down bar, in a cross fall line deck rail with another deck rail gap to down bar in the middle of the close-in, and the other half of the El Toro stair set with a gap off down bar and another close out down bar on the left side of pad.
This year’s event featured another stacked lineup with Jesse Paul taking home the top prize on the men’s side while Alexis Roland won the women’s draw. Ron Forth earned Best Trick honors with a BS 630 that thrilled the thousands of spectators in attendance. To top things off, HDHR 2019 also featured live performances by NOFX, The Vandals, and The Bronx.
